Online Registration for 2018 has now CLOSED!
ONLINE REGISTRATION CLOSED ON FRIDAY 19 OCTOBER 2018 Build a vehicle that can outlast your competition in a battle of attrition around a tight and twisty race circuit. On the way you will learn about teamwork, electric vehicles, building stuff, thinking like an entrepreneur and how to push the boundaries in vehicle design.
The EV Prize is aimed at creating a fun and practical way for high school students and their families to be involved in a project that introduces high school students to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
The EV Prize is an annual event. Any school in NSW can participate. Each year schools build on their knowledge and experience from the previous years and make modifications to their bikes as well as how they work with the wider community. Teachers involved in the competition are overwhelmingly supportive as they have seen a growth in interest and enthusiasm for science in participating students. Hence we find that schools which participated in one year are consistently found to have entered a team in subsequent years of the competition. Similarly students tend to be involved for more than one year. How to register for the EV Prize CompetitionRegistration is all online this year. So School Team Registration, Team Member registration, together with photo / media consent forms and event participation waver can all be completed online. This introduced teachers from interested schools to the basics of the EV Prize.
The EV Prize event requires teachers from interested schools to attend a 3 hour workshop introducing them to the basics of EV Prize:
The Teacher Workshop was designed to support teachers in the planning and basic construction of an electric vehicle that can enable a school to participate in the event. The teacher workshop is also a much needed opportunity for teacher’s to work alongside University staff. Following on from the Teacher Workshop teachers initiate the process in their schools, co-ordinating teams, training students to build bikes and developing strategies based on science and technology to improve the performance of their vehicle.

“The EV Prize is engaging students, exciting them about science AND changing 'culture'. After all you and your team (Nigel, Tim & Gary) have done for our school in getting the students motivated in looking outwards from their own 'small' world view and giving them a glimpse at a much bigger picture - you guys have really honestly changed the culture here at Belmont. I have a group of about 15 to 20 students who come up to the science labs whenever possible to have meetings/think tanks - and a little actual work gets done. Two parents have come to me personally over the last 3 weeks and have asked if I have plans for further 'extra' activities to keep their kids 'excited' about coming to school.”
